【News】 ZEN-NOH to join disinfectant business aiming at boosting exports of Japanese farm products (Dec. 7, 2016)
ZEN-NOH (National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations) or a national business organization of agricultural cooperatives in Japan made an announcement on December 6 that it will establish a cooperative corporation with Enviro Tech Chemical Services, Inc., a chemical manufacturer based at Modesto in California, USA, and Ozu Corporation at Chuo ward, Tokyo, a marketing company of nonwoven fabric materials. The new company will be engaged in imports and sales of peracetic acid known as PAA, which is used to disinfect agricultural and livestock products. PAA is a non-residual compound. On November 4, 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) named the first five rural areas to receive the ministry’s “Savor Japan” certification for their excellent regional initiatives to promote the attractiveness of the regions by combining their local resources including foods, the agricultural industry and local scenery. The first five regions accredited in the governmental program launched in 2016 are Tokachi in Hokkaido, Ichinoseki and Hiraizumi in Iwate Prefecture, Tsuruoka in Yamagata Prefecture, Maze in Gifu Prefecture, and Nishi-Awa in Tokushima Prefecture. 【News】 Exports of vacuum packed rice to be promoted under Japanese Government initiative to improve infrastructure for exports of primary products (Dec. 6, 2016)
The Japanese Government has initiated “an infrastructure development program for exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products,” which clarifies a policy direction of infrastructural improvement to be required for boosting exports of those commodities. The governmental program includes new measures to promote improvement of auto vacuum sealer machines since an export of vacuum packed rice (cooked) is expected to be promising in overseas markets. 【News】 Say “Good morning” to your cows to get more milk: study by farm helper reveals favorable impact of positive human-cow interaction (Oct. 27, 2016)
Just saying “Good morning” to your milking cows can increase their milk production. In a study coducted by a 24-year-old farm helper at a dairy farm in Nakashibetsu town, Hokkaido, cows produced more milk after receiving friendly cares, stroking and approaching, and less after receiving slaps or being shouted at. The stock handler, Haruka Koshio, also confirmed that first-calf heifers are more susceptible to such emotional experiences.
