JA Fruits Yamanashi sells limited number of Hello Kitty peaches
YAMANASHI, Jul. 30 – A local agricultural cooperative in Yamanashi Prefecture sold a limited number of peaches with an image of a popular Sanrio character, “Hello Kitty.” One of the world’s most popular cat and the JA Fruits Yamanashi collaborated to promote the consumption of the local summer fruits. The JA used Yamanashi’s patented technology to “print” the image on locally-grown “Natsukko” white peaches, which are currently in high season. Approximately two weeks before harvesting, peach growers wrapped each one of the fruits on the trees with a stocking with a light-blocking sticker to make the cute character appear clearly on the skin of the fruit. A six-grader develops eco-friendly trap to catch channeled apple snails
GIFU, June 9 – A six-grade boy of Seki, Gifu Prefecture, has developed a trap to catch channeled apple snails using a plastic flower pot and a plastic bottle. University of Miyazaki develops smart glasses to visually estimate pigs’ weight
MIYAZAKI, May 30 – A research team of the University of Miyazaki and other institutions has developed a set of glasses equipped with a camera which enables wearers to measure pigs’ weight just by looking at them. By combining artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology, the device can estimate the weight in a matter of seconds, largely reducing the burden of pig farmers. They can get an estimated live weight and carcass weight of pigs while working on other tasks. The margin of error is within roughly 4 percentage points, and the team is aiming at commercializing the product. The system involves gathering data from a 3D camera and a … Continue reading
