Digital rice field appears in Tokyo and interacts with audience

TOKYO, June 22 — A rice paddy field appears across the floor. You touch it with the scenery changing constantly. But the scenery is an illusion — a digital exhibit at a new interactive museum in Tokyo. The digital rice field is one of artworks created by the teamLAb, a group of Japanese ultra-technologist, known for their digital art that combines projections, sound and spaces. The teamLAb have opened a full-scale digital art museum at the Mori Building in Tokyo’s Odaiba. The museum features multiple 3-dimensional spaces set across 10,000 square meters. The exhibits are designed to flow into one another and interact with each other and visitors.

Heavy floods and landslides leave more than 200 dead in Japan

SOJA, July 10 ― The Japanese government has issued new alerts over record rains that have killed more than 200 people and left dozens missing in central and western Japan. The torrential rains caused heavy floods and landslides across central and western parts of the country, prompting evacuation orders for nearly four million people. In Soja city, Okayama prefecture, the swirling Takahashi river water burst its 5-meter banks and swept away all the efforts of fruit trees and greenhouses that the Kariya family had made. “There was a greenhouse here. Osaka earthquake shakes farm businesses in western Japan

IBARAKI, June 20 — One day after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Osaka, Japan’s second largest metropolitan area, the vulnerability of many elements of urban infrastructure has been exposed. Four people died and more than 400 others were injured after the earthquake. The Osaka earthquake hit during the morning rush hour and affected many businesses, including farming operations. The agriculture ministry and the farmers’ co-operative JA group rushed to assist and assess quake damages. The meteorological agency warned additional earthquakes in the form of aftershocks of the magnitude 6.1 earthquake.

Make a wish upon a star at Taketanada fire festival in Toho Village, Fukuoka Prefecture

FUKUOKA, June 17 – On June 9, the Toho village in Fukuoka Prefecture held “Taketanada no Himatsuri,” a local festival that features torches of over one thousand. In July last year, the village was severely hit by the concentrated heavy rainfall that struck the northern part of the Kyushu. The villagers still find it difficult to recover some of the local stepped rice paddies (tanada in Japanese) but decided to have the event to express their hope for the quick recovery of the region. Since then, we’ve been creating new arrangements for the entrance of the office of the Shinden Branch every Monday. We use sesame flowers, carrots flowers, two-legged Japanese radishes and all other materials you don’t usually get to see at your local supermarkets.
