【News】 Farmer’s son Daisuke Narimatsu to challenge for gold at boxing tournament of Rio 2016 Summer Olympics (June 7, 2016)

A lightweight boxer, a farmer’s son in Kumamoto prefecture, Japan, will participate in a boxing tournament at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics beginning on August 5. He is Daisuke Narimatsu, 26, born in a rice producer’s family living at Minami-ku, Kumamoto City. He graduated from Kumamoto Prefectural Kumamoto Agricultural High School and entered Tokyo University of Agriculture . Narimatsu began his boxing career at the Kumamoto Agricultural High School. Since he graduated from the University, he has been belonging to the Physical Training School of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) at Nerima-ku, Tokyo, where he is continuously training for the Rio Olympics as an executive member of JSDF. 【News】 More than two thousand farmers, fishers and their supporters gather to pledge “We will surely revive Kumamoto!” (June 5, 2016)

A meeting to aim at hastening restoration and recovery from the earthquakes was held at Kumamoto city in Kumamoto prefecture on June 4. More than two thousand people, including farmers, fishers, forest owners, and representatives of agricultural cooperatives (JAs) and other related organizations, participated in the meeting. The participants adopted a resolution to pledge themselves to concentrate their efforts particularly on rehabilitation of their living and business activities so as to achieve early restoration and recovery from the disaster. In the resolution, they also called the Government for its financial support as well as policy implementation for establishing sustainable industries of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in Kumamoto prefecture. 【News】 G20 Agriculture Ministers commit at Xi’an China to raise agricultural productivity and enhance active involvement of women and young people in food production (June 4, 2016)

The Agriculture Ministers of the Group of Twenty (G20), 19 developed and emerging countries plus the European Union, met in Xi’an, China, on June 3. At the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting, they adopted the Communiqué to pursue the establishment of food security through technological innovation by applying Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the like to raise agricultural productivity. Japan was represented by Hiroshi Moriyama, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at the Meeting. 【News】 International visitors to be welcome with Japanese food culture at Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games (June 1, 2016)

The Government of Japan held a meeting of the liaison officials of relevant ministries and agencies on May 31 for enhancing dissemination of information on Japanese food culture toward the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The network of these officials plans to study measures to be taken for this purpose, including a program for serving the Olympic athletes with food ingredients of locally grown farm products at the Olympic village. A number of international tourists are expected to come to Japan during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 【News】Racers go ups and downs through lush Shizuoka tea plantations                          Green tea growers finds new way to promote green tea consumption (May 13, 2016)

In Shizuoka Prefecture, its famous green tea plantaions become a race course for cyclists. The roads that run through the green tea gardens are perfect sites for a road race and an organized bike ride as they have great ups and downs, are well-paved, and have no signals. On some Saturdays and Sundays, the roads are closed to cars and pedestrians and hundreds of cyclists turn them into a race course for a day.
