“Trebian!” Noh no Ikebana exhibition held at French Embassy to share great harmony between mind and agricultural culture of Japan

TOKYO, Nov. 10 – Noh no Ikebana arrangements that use rice stalks and toumi (a traditional winnowing machine) were displayed at French Embassy in Japan. The Japan Agricultural News held an exhibition and an open class of Noh no Ikebana at the embassy in Minato ward, Tokyo, as one of the events to commemorate its 90th anniversary. A group of 20 members of the Noh no Ikebana Club in Tokyo exhibited their arrangements. One of the visitors to the exhibition said, “This is so impressive! Farmers in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, ship world’s first GM silkworm cocoons

Sericulture farmers feeding mulberry leaves to GM silk worms (in Maebashi city, Nagano Prefecture, photo by Gunma Sericultural Technology Center) MAEBASHI, Nov. 2 — On November 1, 2017, sericulture farmers in Maebashi city, Gunma Prefecture, shipped cocoons of genetically engineered (GM) silkworms that produce green fluorescent silk yarns for the first time in the world. On November 13, the cocoons will be sent to Miyasaka Silk Reeling Company in Okaya city, Nagano Prefecture. Then all the silk yarn produced by the mill will be sold to a Kyoto-based textile company, Hosoo Co., Ltd. which is planning to use them to make original interior products. National Food Loss Reduction Conference held in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, on the day of food loss reduction

NAGANO, Oct. 30 – Matsumoto city, Nagano Prefecture, held the 1st All Japan Food Loss Reduction Conference on October 30, 2017. At the conference, the city introduced one of its key efforts called “30-10 (sanmaru-ichimaru) Movement,” and run a panel discussion of restaurant and retail store owners and consumers to confirm the shared commitment to expanding the food loss reduction movement across the country. The participants also endorsed the decision to name October 30 “food loss reduction day” in Japan. Japan determined to clinch TPP trade deal without US at APEC

TOKYO, Nov. 3 — Japanese Economy Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said on Nov. 2 that Japan is determined to strike a new trade agreement in principle on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) without the United States during the Nov. 8-9 ministerial meeting in Vietnam. “I am determined to make a new deal at the meeting,” said Motegi at a press conference. Officials from the 11 TPP members met in Urayasu city, near Tokyo, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1.
