“Asian Farmers’ Group for Cooperation (AFGC)” set up by farmers’ organizations in nine Asian countries completed a two-day session of its 17th annual conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on March 21.
A main theme of the meeting this year was how to raise agricultural productivity with use of developed technology in their respective countries.
Representatives of Asian farmers’ organizations exchanged their views and shared their experiences each other at the meeting, and reached agreement on enhancement of cooperation for promoting necessary information as well as sharing it among themselves.
Participants from the Philippines, India and Sri Lanka presented their respective reports on achievements of farmers’ income-raising projects implemented with financial assistances of “Fundraising for Coexistence with Asia” that was conducted by agricultural cooperative organizations in Japan.
The representative of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) told the delegates of other Asian farmers’ organizations about a successful implementation of its project at Morigaon district in the state of Assam located in northeastern India, which promoted compound farming practices of fish farming, dairy farming, and vegetable production among farmers.
NCUI’s delegate celebrated the success of the Morigaon project with other participants of the conference, saying “Our farmers in the Morigaon district could achieve valuable results of employment expansion as well as an increase in farmers’ income at their village by carrying out the project with the fund provided by the fundraising campaign of Japanese agricultural cooperatives.”
