MAFF publishes Oishi Nippon food export starting guide, collaborating with Japan’s popular travel guidebook publisher

TOKYO, Jun. 11 – The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) has released a booklet, “Oishi-Nippon-no-Todokekata (Beautiful Japanese Food Export Starting Guide)” in collaboration with Japan’s popular travel guidebook series, Chikyu-no-Arukikata (Globe-Trotter Travel Guidebook). It introduces the global food situation and Japan’s food exports as a comprehensive guidebook for businesses interested in starting exports, providing a step-by-step approach to developing export strategies and completing the necessary procedures.

According to the farm ministry, this is the first time it has published an export starting guide, regardless of product category. The book is distributed through the ministry’s regional agricultural administration offices.

Just like Chikyu-no-Arukikata, it has many pictures to introduce local markets and restaurants visually. The section titled “Area Guides” explains the food cultures and consumer tastes in each area. It also contains local reports from residents covering the best-selling products at local supermarkets.

How to proceed with marketing and branding, obtain certifications, and create export documents is explained with illustrations and cartoons. Moreover, it contains procedures and troubleshooting guides for readers to learn as if they are planning their future travel.

“This is a must-read for anyone who is interested in exporting but doesn’t know where to start,” the ministry’s Export Support Division said.

The A5-size booklet has 128 pages. A PDF version is also available through the link on the MAFF website.
