Drinking cow’s milk during pregnancy can reduce or prevent symptoms of postpartum depression, according to the study report released on June 16, 2016, by Ehime University. This new function of the milk was revealed for the first time in the world, according to the university, and may come under spotlight as an additional value of milk which has high nutritious value. 【News】 “Brown Rice Coffee” launched with “home-grown flavor” by JA’s national business federation ZEN-NOH (July 2, 2016)
A new-type coffee specially blended with brown rice produced in Japan was just debuted this July by ZEN-NOH (National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations), JA’s (agricultural cooperative’s) national business organization, headquartered at Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. ZEN-NOH developed a manufacturing technology of processing an equal amount of roasted coffee beans and brown rice into “brown rice coffee” for brewing at home, which successfully makes good use of the flavor and sweetness of rice. “Brown rice coffee” is expected to appeal its originality in the domestic market of coffee and also make a contribution to an increase in rice consumption in the country. Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) will start a special program of spreading “Japanese beef cutting techniques” among overseas chefs, which cut round of beef and other parts of “wagyu (Japanese beef cattle)” into thinly sliced beef specially for Japanese cuisines such as “Yakiniku (Korean-style grilled meat)” and “Shabu-shabu,” one of Japanese hot pot dishes. Pure Dish Co., Ltd., an affiliate of ZEN-NOH (National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations), based at Mihama-ku, Chiba-shi in Chiba prefecture, plans to increase supplies of prepared ingredients to preschool education facilities such as kindergartens and nursery schools this year. Most of these facilities are suffering from a labor shortage at their kitchen, which makes it difficult for the cooking staff to take a lot of time to cook lunch meals for the children. 【News】 “Wagyu” feeders join fifteen-month national competition to win the entitlement to international publicity toward Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics (June 24, 2016)
The 11th National Competitive Exhibition of Wagyu (Japanese beef cattle) kicked off at a prefectural-level elimination round held in Kyoto prefecture on June 24. The National Exhibition has been organized once every five years aiming to provide livestock farmers throughout the country with an opportunity to compete in qualitative improvement of “wagyu” breeds.
