KAGAWA, Dec. 15 – A manufacturer and seller of plastic products in Kanonji City, Kagawa Prefecture, Kawasaki Kako Co., Ltd., has developed a very innovative product, a helmet that can also be used as a bowl to serve udon noodles. The product is called Udon Helmet and is made of biomass plastic derived from domestically grown rice. It measures 10 centimeters in height, 18 centimeters in width, and 26 centimeters in length, including a brim – big enough for an adult to wear. Agriculture ministry and farm coops invite foreign envoys to washoku dinner to promote Japanese farm produce
TOKYO, Dec. 11 — The National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (JA ZEN-NOH) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Dec. 10 held a dinner in Tokyo showcasing washoku Japanese cuisine, aimed at boosting exports of farm produce. Some 100 guests, mainly foreign ambassadors to Japan and their spouses, were invited to the dinner at the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace in Tokyo’s Minato Ward and were served with a full-course dinner of Kyo Kaiseki — Kyoto’s traditional local cuisine — using Japan-made agricultural products including Kyoto’s heirloom vegetables. HONG KONG, Dec. 8 — ZEN-NOH International Hong Kong Ltd., a subsidiary of the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (JA ZEN-NOH) group, will fully open a permanent sales counter on Dec. 9 inside a shop in Hong Kong to sell Japan-made fruit and vegetables as part of efforts to boost Japan’s exports of fresh produce. Shogoin turnip-jewel from the winter field in Kyoto
KYOTO, Dec. 5 – In the Shino district of Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, a traditional Japanese vegetable, Shogoin turnip, is now at its peak shipping season. It is the largest turnip in Japan that can weigh up to 5 kilograms. TOYAMA, Dec. 1 – Pairs of socks sold by Sukeno Co., Ltd., a socks manufacturer based in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, are selling well. The “Sushi Socks,” which look like sushi when rolled up, are popular, particularly among inbound tourists, and the company has sold 220,000 pairs so far. There are nine types, including ikura fish eggs, tako octopus, and masu-zushi, traditional sushi in Toyama made using sliced trout or cherry salmon.
