TOKYO, May 25 — More Japanese people have opted for the benefits of a rural life over the hustle of big city life, a study has shown. Japan’s automated rice cooker exports hit a record high in 2017
TOKYO, May 27 — Japan’s electric rice cooker exports have kept growing in popularity in neighboring countries, data from the finance ministry has shown. Japan’s electric rice cooker exports reached a record high of 10.2 billion yen in 2017, the highest since they were recorded in 1988. China emerged as the top export destination as it accounted for about 40 percent of Japan’s total rice cooker exports. The shipments to China jumped 11 percent to 3.7 billion yen in 2017. Japan’s Oumifuji co-op pushes its barley exports to Taiwan
MORIYAMA, May 24 — A Japanese farmers’ co-operative in Shiga prefecture is to export its pearl barley to Taiwan for the first time, aiming to capitalize its health benefits abroad. JA Oumifuji is to ship 300 packages of prepackaged pearl barley to Taiwan in June. One package contains 300 grams of barley grown in Shiga prefecture. Pearl barley has a chewy, satisfying texture and subtle nutty flavor, making it a perfect way to bulk up meals. Many studies have suggested that increasing consumption of barley decreases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Instagrammable green tea desserts developed by college students and farm coop in Kyoto, sold at local department store
KYOTO, May 26 – The Kyoto prefectural headquarters of National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (ZEN-NOH) has collaborated with female college students in the Kansai area to develop photogenic green tea-flavored sweets, which are put on sale at its restaurant Minoru Shokudo located inside Takashimaya department store in Kyoto.
