【News】 Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture distributes virtual idol’s video over Internet: Idol singer Hatsune Miku guiding international tourists about local tastes (March 2, 2017)

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) distributed a video named “OISHII TRIP (literally, a trip of enjoying tasty foods)” to YouTube and other video hosting sites on the Internet on March 1.

In the video of “OISHII TRIP,” Hatsune Miku, one of the most popular virtual idols among net viewers, promotes products of agriculture, forestry and fisheries produced in various places in Japan as a charming tour guide of Japan.

MAFF’s officials launched a new publicity project, saying “We have decided to appoint an internationally popular character as our spokesperson. MAFF expects our virtual idol Hatsune Miku to play a major role in promoting Japanese cuisine and Japanese food culture in many foreign countries.”

Hatsune Miku introduces local products and sightseeing spots at many places in the country by singing and dancing at her fast tempo in the video.

Animation and Japanese food are regarded as central pillars of so-called “Cool Japan Strategy” that sends information on Japanese culture to overseas people.

Hatsune Miku is a world-famous “virtual idol” loved by a number of fans in many countries.

With her help, MAFF wishes to invite more international tourists visiting Japan to local places in collaboration with Japanese cuisine.
