At a review meeting of “2016 Mother’s Day sales battle” held in Tokyo on May 24 by Flowering Japan Council (FJC), based at Chuo-ku, Tokyo, a number of FJC’s members, owners of flower shops, raised their expectations that flowers of potted hydrangeas, European hydrangeas, will be “standard goods” on the Mother’s Day of Japan in a near future.
According to the reports presented by the participating owners of flower shops, who are main members of FJC, sales of hydrangeas followed carnations on Mother’s Day this year. Some of the flower shops plan to purchase more hydrangeas from the market for the 2017 Mother’s Day.
FJC organized the meeting for providing members of flower shop owners with opportunities to share sales information useful for preparing for the Mather’s Day sales in the next year.
Representatives of 28 flower and bouquet shops, visiting Tokyo to attend the meeting from various part of the country, were requested to fill out a FJC’s questionnaire prior to the meeting.
36 percent of the respondents replied hydrangeas were sold more than carnations on the 2016 Mother’s Day. Reasons for increased sales of hydrangeas include “Both of flower’s volume and shape were appreciated so cute,” and “New varieties of colorful hydrangeas gained tremendous popularity among customers.”
