【News】 Meat wholesale markets to get ready for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (Feb. 20, 2016)
All of 10 central meat wholesale markets located at major cities in the country have launched new projects of introducing a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system into their markets.
They plan to reform their total system of handlings and shipments in their markets on the basis of the global standards for food safety management with a view to boosting exports of Japanese meats and supplies for foreign tourists visiting the country.
People of these wholesale markets believe that demands for local meats will most increase especially in 2020 when the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games are held in Japan. They are hurriedly improving facilities and promoting staff trainings required for introducing a HACCP system into their markets.
A special task force set up at each wholesale market has played a leading role in coping with all the issues identified for shipping completely safe meats from their facilities. Collaboration is made by key members of the task force, representatives of local governments and wholesalers which founded the meat wholesale market.
The Tokyo Central Meat Wholesale Market, Minato-ku, Tokyo, which handles the largest amount of meats in the country, will soon complete its efforts for improving facilities at the market.
