Sushi can run fast, too! Takara Tomy made real-size Sushi Tomica

One of Japan’s leading toy manufacturers, Tomy Company Ltd., is going to release a new series of sushi-themed toy cars, “Sushi Tomica,” in the latter half of December this year. The toy cars come in the size of authentic sushi and are created by the company’s master miniature toy car designers, who applied their seasoned artistry. The shari (vinegared rice) part of each sushi toy even has a driver’s seat and number plates, making them a perfect car that you can enjoy driving.

Sushi Tomica is a series commemorating the 55th anniversary of Tomica toy car production. They will be available at toy stores nationwide and online e-commerce sites for 1,100 yen each. There will be six sushi types: maguro (red meat tuna), otoro (highly fatty tuna), tamago (egg), ika (squid), anago (conger eel), and ebi (shrimp). Their packages have no descriptions of their types, so that the purchaser can enjoy a thrill when opening them.

The company takes it seriously to recreate the texture of each sushi. For example, for maguro, it uses a semi-transparent material to reproduce its color and authentic texture. For the rice part, it applied numerous creative ideas, such as car seats in the shape of rice and tires in a clear soy source brown color.

Reservations are now being accepted.

However, they are likely to sell out soon, as they are extremely popular, according to Tomy. “We once again realized that sushi is a beloved national dish,” the company said.
