【News】 “Dorayaki” first listed in “100 % Pure Made-in-Hokkaido” food products (March 14, 2016)

Hokkaido Research Organization set up a task force named “Project Team for 100% Pure Made-in-Hokkaido,” in order to help local food manufacturers develop food products made exclusively with ingredients produced in Hokkaido. The first food product developed by the project team is “Dorayaki (a bean-jam pancake),” which is manufactured exclusively with ingredients produced in Hokkaido including main materials of wheat and adzuki beans, baking soda for making pancake dough rise, and agar used for sweet bean paste. The Research Organization continues to develop “100% Pure Made-in-Hokkaido” food products. 【News】 Strawberry growers’ handball team, “Fresa Fukuoka,” to dream of joining Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 (March 13, 2016)

A handball team of strawberry growers have a debut game on March 27 in Itoshima-shi, Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu Island. All of ten members consisting of the team, “Fresa Fukuoka,” based at Itoshima, are also engaged in strawberry growing. They have moved to Itoshima from other cities mostly out of Fukuoka prefecture. The handball team, Fresa Fukuoka, seeks membership in the Japan Handball League, a top-level national handball league in the country, as early as possible. Players of Fresa Fukuoka have common dreams not only of joining the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, but also of becoming independent farmers of producing strawberry and other crops in the near future. 【News】 Abe Administration pledges to complete recovery works of farmlands by 2018 in post-disaster reconstruction policy (March 12, 2016)

The Japanese Government decided the basic post-disaster reconstruction policy for next five years at the Cabinet meeting on the fifth anniversary day of the Great East Japan Earthquake, March 11. Regarding measures to be taken for revitalizing agricultural production in the disaster-hit areas, the Government plans to complete recovery works of farmlands by 2020 and further promote enlargements of farmland lots through exchanges of those lots among farmers concerned. 【News】Giant earthquake scars remain on land and people’s mind (Namie-cho, Fukushima Prefecture) (March 11, 2016)

In a farm in Namie-cho, Fukushima Prefecture, there still is a crack opened by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The 100-meter long scar of the earthquake with a seismic intensity of Upper 6 cut through the farm.   The farm called Kibo no Bokujo Fukushima (Farm of Hope in Fukushima) is run by Masami Yoshizawa, 62, and other Fukushima farmers to attend approximately 330 head of cattle remaining in the area after being affected by the nuclear accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. 【News】 JA Group’s tasting and sale of Japanese rice attracts Shanghai consumers in China (March 7, 2016)

JA Group, an organizational network of Japanese agricultural cooperatives (JAs), held a special event to attract Chinese consumers with tasty Japanese rice on March 5-6 at a department store in Shanghai, China. The event was arranged in conjunction with a project of Japanese rice export promotion launched in Shanghai jointly by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and other agencies. A special site prepared at the Isetan Department Store in Shanghai appealed Japanese rice to Shanghai citizens through various ways such as tasting and sale, video playing and panel displaying.
