  Kika Yamauchi – Wellington New Zealand’s Primary Industries Minister Hon Nathan Guy told a delegation of the Japan Agricultural Cooperatives group that New Zealand continues to maintain its stance of eliminating all tariffs without exception in the Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade talks. Responding to the delegation’s explanation that tariffs on key Japanese agricultural products should be kept, Guy showed understanding for Japan’s domestic circumstances, but stressed his hope that the TPP members will reach a comprehensive and high-quality agreement. 【News】 Japanese agricultural cooperatives to promote beef exports (Nov. 6, 2013)

  The National Federation of Agricultural Co-operative Associations (JA Zen-Noh) which markets agricultural products announced Tuesday, November 5, that it has opened an office in Singapore on Friday, November 1, to promote Japanese beef. The federation believes the nation has prospects for expanding demand along with the increasing number of wealthy people. The federation also set up a sales department inside its New York subsidiary Zen-Noh Unico America Corp. on Friday, November 1, to expand sales business of meat and agricultural products. 【News】 Japanese government and industries to boost agricultural exports coupled with promotion of Japanese cuisine (Nov. 2, 2013)

  Japan’s National Council for Export Promotion of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Products held a general assembly on Friday, November 1, and participants confirmed the council’s target of doubling exports of agricultural products to JPY 1 trillion by 2020. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told the assembly that export drive is one of the most important agricultural policies. Abe said he was impressed by the popularity of Japanese dishes when he visited overseas, and encouraged agricultural industries to work on expanding exports with confidence. 【News】 Bus wraps promote Fukushima-made foods in Tokyo (Nov. 1, 2013)

  20 buses wrapped with messages encouraging people to buy safe Fukushima-made food products started running in Tokyo on Friday, November 1. The campaign is part of the Fukushima Prefectural Government’s efforts to tackle harmful rumors caused by the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant accident in 2011. The Toei buses, operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, are wrapped with advertisements on the outer surface and also carry posters inside, to appeal to consumers that growers of Fukushima are all working together to ensure safety of food products, such as through radiation inspection tests. 【News】 Japan Agricultural Cooperatives group to step up cooperation with Japan’s most influential business lobby (Oct. 30, 2013)

  The Central Union of Agricultural Co-operatives (JA-Zenchu) announced Tuesday, October 29, that the Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (JA) group and Keidanren, an influential business lobby also known as the Japan Business Federation, will establish a working group to strengthen cooperation between business and agricultural sectors. The move is part of JA’s efforts to collaborate with other industrial sectors to come up with new processed items in order to add value to agricultural products and reduce costs. The JA group included importance of such cooperation in its proposal on agricultural policies submitted to the government in June.
