An agricultural co-operative in the village of Umaji, Kochi Prefecture (JA Umajimura), has started marketing a moisturizing UV-guard cream which contains extracts of Yuzu citrons, the local specialty.

Umaji UV Cream Fusegu (meaning “guard” in Japanese), which is developed, manufactured and marketed in the village, contains natural oil and extracts of Yuzu seeds which are said to have high moisturizing effects. It can be used as a makeup base, as it blends well with a foundation.

JA Umajimura started selling skin care products containing fragrance of Yuzu fruit and extracts from Yuzu seeds in 2011. Fusegu is the 12th product and the first sun protection item in the series. The SPF 26, PA++ sunscreen is suitable for daily use. It is made with a chemical-free formulation to reduce the burden on the skin.

According to the co-operative, Yuzu seeds are rich in pectin which has a skin moisturizing effect, and oil extracted from Yuzu seeds strengthens the skin barrier.

Asuka Yamanaka, 29, who works for the co-operative and uses the cream herself, recommends the product, saying its moisturizing effect is high although it is a sunblock.

The product comes in a 50-gram bottle at JPY2,500. For further information, call JA Umajimura toll-free at 0120-559-659.
