Son of legendary breeding bull attracts attention following the father’s sudden death

TOKYO, June 16 — Following the sudden death of legend breeding bull Fukunohime that led Japan’s wagyu production, all eyes are on which bull will succeed him for beef cattle producing regions to entrust their future to. At the center of attention is Fukunohime-sired bull Fukunotsuru, while some producing regions pin hopes on locally-born bulls. Sudden death of legend breeding cattle leads to shortage of semen

TOKYO, June 6 — The Livestock Improvement Association of Japan announced on June 5 that Fukunohime, a Japanese black breeding bull kept by the association, died of acute heart failure on June 2 at the age of 10 years and 10 months. Fukunohime has been known as a “super breeding bull” for its ability to produce calves with high growth performance and carcass yield. His progenies have been the price setter at calf trading markets nationwide and achieved good results at national carcass contests. Japan’s rice exports rise 40% year-on-year amid bad harvest in the U.S.

TOKYO, May 31 — Japan’s exports of rice this year are increasing at a pace of more than 40 percent from a year before, exceeding last year’s strong growth. The rise is driven mainly by shipments to the United States. With prices of U.S.-grown rice rising sharply due to drought, orders for Japanese rice are going up as the weak yen makes the product look reasonably priced. At stores in the U.S., some U.S. rice products ended up being priced higher than Japanese rice.
